2027 AAPM/RSNA Doctoral and Masters Graduate Fellowships

The AAPM/RSNA Graduate Fellowships support outstanding students pursuing graduate study in medical physics at CAMPEP-accredited programs.

Doctoral Graduate Fellowships

Four $10,000 awards for doctoral students (PhD or DMP):

  • Two awards for first-year doctoral students
  • Two awards for doctoral students in their second year or beyond

Master's Graduate Fellowships

Three $10,000 awards for master's students who are either:

  • Accepted into a master's program but have not yet started (incoming students), or
  • Currently in the first year of a master's program

All award funds are disbursed to the institution, which then transfers them to the student. The funds may be used for tuition, professional development, or research-related expenses.

Eligibility

All applicants must:

  • Be an AAPM member in good standing when they apply. Pending memberships are not accepted. If you're not yet a member, please apply for membership well in advance, as processing typically takes 2–4 weeks.
  • Have not received this fellowship previously.

First-year applicants (doctoral or master's) must:

  • Hold an undergraduate degree in physics or a related major (e.g., engineering physics, mathematical physics, nuclear engineering, or applied physics) from an accredited college or university.
  • Have an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) above 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. 
  • Be accepted into a CAMPEP-accredited graduate program when they apply.

Second-year and beyond applicants (doctoral only) must: 

  • Be enrolled in a CAMPEP-accredited graduate medical physics program.
  • Have a graduate GPA above 3.5 on a 4.0 scale: 
    • Second-year students: based on their first semester of graduate study
    • Students beyond their second year: based on their graduate coursework to date

Required Documents & Attestation. Please be prepared to provide the following:

  • CAMPEP Accredited Program Acceptance Letter
  • Fund statement 
    • MS Candidates: Provide a (<300 word) statement of how funds will be used (i.e. travel, tuition, room & board, supplies, etc.) and explain the personal circumstances or financial needs that make this award particularly meaningful to you and how receiving it would support your graduate education, professional development, or future career. Please be specific.
    • Doctoral Candidates: Provide a (<300 word) statement describing specifically how you plan to use the award funds to support your research. Provide a detailed plan for the anticipated use of the funds (i.e. research-related travel, data collection, software, equipment, educational materials, or other research expenses). Explain how this financial support would advance your current research activities.
  • Personal Statement  
    • MS Candidates: Provide a (<300 word) statement describing your interest in medical physics, including any relevant knowledge, clinical experience/shadowing, or other exposure to the field. Discuss how receiving this award would support your professional development and help prepare you to become a future leader and meaningful contributor to the field of medical physics.
    • Doctoral Candidates: Provide a (<300 word) statement describing your research interests in medical physics and how you believe your work will help advance or transform the field in the next five years. Discuss how receiving this award would support your research development and help prepare you to become a future researcher and leader in medical physics.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    • Use the required [CV template].
    • Upload your completed CV as a PDF file.
  • Transcripts
    • An unofficial transcript is required at the time of application (you may upload a second transcript, if applicable).
    • Finalists must submit an official transcript within two weeks of notification.
  • Letter of Recommendation (1 required)
    • One letter of recommendation is required. It should be written by an advisor or faculty member who knows you and your work well.
    • The letter of recommendation request may be submitted before your application is complete. We encourage you to complete this section as early as possible to allow your recommender sufficient time to respond. 
    • Be prepared to enter the name and email address of the advisor or faculty person who will write your letter of recommendation.
    • Once submitted, the system will automatically email your recommender with instructions. Please advise them to check for an email from noreply@secure-platform.com, which may end up in their spam or junk folder.
  • Recommendation Forms (2 required)
    • Two recommendation forms are required. Each should be completed by an advisor or faculty member who knows you and your work well.
    • You can send your recommendation requests before you finish the rest of your application. We encourage you to send them early so your recommenders have plenty of time to complete the form.
    • Be prepared to enter the names and email addresses of the people who will complete this form.
    • Once you submit this information, the system will automatically email your recommender with instructions and a link to the form. Please advise them to check for an email from noreply@secure-platform.com, which may end up in their spam or junk folder.
